The choir is currently led bij Tom Hoornaert. It has 54 members and was founded by the organist Luc Vandenabeele in 1976. In 1999 Tom took over the wand.

The choir experiences and remarkable growth and sings mainly polyphonic liturgical music. They are well achnowledged and appreciated as choir stimulating the 'singing church'.

Next to the religious repertoire they also dare to bring profane songs under the dynamic impulse of Tom and with equal success.

With the support of his fantastic management Tom can realize his musical dreams. Rehearsals of Cantiga are on Wednesdays from 20.00 pm till 21.30 pm in the Sint-Pieterskerk in Tielt.

Tom Hoornaert has been the choirleader of the choir Cantando from Oedelgem since September 2012.

The common theme throughout all choirs of Tom Hoornaert is “friendship”. Hard and sound work , alternated with a funny note works wonders!

Together with a fantastic board, Tom’s right hand Luc Gobert and enthusiastic choirmembers

the choir brings nice and complete literature.

Rehearsals of Cantando take place on Thursdays from 20.00 till 22.00 in the primary school in Oedelgem.

In spring 2009 the proposition came under instigation of Tom Hoornaert to set up a new musical

society. Tielt , counting already some 200 voluntary associations didn’t have a specific musical

society yet. Hence the idea of brainstorming on this subject with some musical minded people active in the cultural domain.

A name was sought and found : “Mathea” which is the contraction of “musical and theater”.

Just like in other associations , Tom Hoornaert can rely here on 8 skilled and motivated board members.
